The Protectorate Togoland was officially renamed into Togo by 1905. The territory belonged to Germany from 1884 to 1914 and was the only German colony in Africa without an army. The surface was about 87,200 km². Togo was considert a "pattern colony", because there existed an appropriate infrastructure and good medical care. A few weeks after the beginning of World War I the small police troop surrendered on 26.08.1914; the great radio station at Kamina had been destroyed before. Great Britain and France divided Togo along a demarcation line, which is today's state border between Ghana and Togo. |
