The Protectorate of German South-West Africa existed from 1884 to 1915. The surface contained 835,100 km², and was about 1.5 times bigger than the German Empire at that time. After battles against Portuguese and South African troops the German army surrendered on 09.07.1915 near Otavi. The end of the German Protectorate was sealed by the Treaty of Versailles in 1919. German South-West Africa was the only German colony in which numerous colonists from the motherland had settled down, whose descendants still live in today's Republic of Namibia. |
