The German protectorate of Cameroon was established in 1884. The original surface was about 500,000 km². The territory stretched from Lake Chad in the north to French Equatorial Africa in the south. In 1911 the area was considerably enlarged as a result of the Morocco Crisis by so far French colonial possessions (New Cameroon). In 1915 British and French troops occupied the protectorate, while the German forces escaped to litte Spanish Guinea. Just like Togo, Cameroon was also divided alongside a French-British demarcation line. |
